Rare, Vintage 1970 Fred Bear Take-Down Recurve & Case, Wood "A" Handle, RH, 58# Limbs, 58 AMO. Although introduced in August 1969, Bears Take-Down model bow did not appear in the Bear catalogs until 1970 (See the pics of bear 70 Brochure). Bear advertised this bow as the first true take-down bow which required no tools for assembling/disassembling the limb and riser sections.
Production of these bows was officially discontinued in 1972. It is said that ONLY 400 of the "A" models (Handles) were made , sothey are hard to find. Here are the significant details for this one, as I know them. This is a First Run Edition , (known as Type I) made in 1969/1970, as indicated by.
Note: Numbering started at 1000. AHandle (SN A1798) , is in beautiful shape with no significant chips, scratches or blemishes. Only 400 were reported made. (Red tips came in with the later Type II& III runs).Limbs are matched Series 2 Limbs (Medium Limbs) SN2-2589. TheLimbs are in good shape, with some of the finish checking typical for these bows, and has some superficial scratching and wear. The hard case did not come as Original Equipment with the bow; but, it is vintage Bear Equipment item. The original foam padding in the case finally deteriorated and has been removed. Youll get the A Riser, Two limbs, a string, Bow tip guard (in Pics), the Bear Case, and the reproduced copy of the bear 70 Catalog/Brochure will be included.
