Piece of history Groves Spitfire Mag III recurve bow serial # 001
The Groves Spitfire is one of the iconic names in recurve bows. The original Spitfire design was a collaboration in the late 1950's between Groves and some physicists at Los Alamos, including Robert Oppenheimer, in a quest to design and build the fastest limbs for a recurve bow. Late in his life, Harold Groves introduced the Spitfire Mag III; a limited series of premium bows... And this one was the first of the series, #001. It's a 64 3-piece takedown with a 55# draw, with limbs that feature Actionwood cores inside his patented Dyna-Stressed fiberglass in a unique mint-cream color. The riser combines shedua wood, black phenolic, and maple pinstripes; riser also has a stabilizer insert and quiver bushings. This bow is unmodified and virtually unused; the original owner never fired it, and I've only fired about a dozen arrows through it myself.
Bow comes with certificate identifying it as Serial # 001, signed by Harold Groves. A fine addition to any collection of classic bows.
