This is a gorgeous dark greenish black colored short blind or stand bow. The blackish and aged white accents create a fantastic. Per the serial number and other characteristics, this bow was built in 1968, the last year Fred Bear owned Bear Archery.

No disrespect to the newer versions, but they just don't make bows like this one any more. This is not a wood-riser bow, but one made with "Bear Hi-Compression material, " the same material used in the coveted Super Kodiak "Black Beauty" models. As far as I know, this is a kind of phenolic material, like micarta, but I have not found any good information on it. For a fifty-plus-year-old bow, this is in great condition, with the exception of the stress mark on the backs of the limbs at the fadeouts - see photo #5 especially.

These marks have been noted as of concern to some knowledgeable persons, but not to others. I cannot be certain if these lines are just in the finish or go deeper into the fiberglass. ANY bow, whether vintage or new, can fail at any time. That said, I have been shooting this at my 29-inch draw length and it is as powerful and more forgiving than its reputation would have had me believe. Still, I'm not a big fan of short bows, so I'm moving it. The draw weight has been measured at 43.4 pounds at 28 inches, (46.6 pounds at 29 inches), well within the tolerance of a bow listed as 45 pounds. The approximate mass weight is 1 lb. That doesn't seem like much, but on a bow this short you can really feel the density, which helps lend stability to this particular version of this model. A 44-inch black and white B-50, black nylon served Flemish-twist string with about sixty (60) shots on it is included.

Large wool yarn puff string silencers are installed, as are tied-on black and white Brownell Diamondback nock locators. An installed Hoyt Super Rest (dyed black, but somehow ended up bluish-black) is as new as the string.
