After researching this, it seems the 58 inch marking on the bow is correct, even though your measurement was 53.5 inches, tip to tip, with the bow unstrung. This is because the AMO (Archery Manufacturers Organization) 58 measurement follows the curvature of the bow's limbs, rather than being linear, and is used by the industry as a standardization for the purpose of fitting a string correctly. Of course this measurement (generally) also tells the archer how far the bow will draw, how stable it is, how maneuverable in a blind, etc. I have a Bear Kodiak Magnum bow (AMO 52) that I have had for many years, and I measured it for the first time this past weekend, and, amazingly it is just about 48 inches unstrung! Recurve bows, I learned, will typically measure about 4 inches shorter than they are marked. Not knowing this, but knowing that the High Speed bow was available in both 58 and 54 (a 4 inch difference) is why I was confused! Thanks for looking and God bless.
