Vintage Bear Archery Tamerlane HC-30: Tournament Recurve Bow 69 35# RH. Limbs are very straight with no twisting. Coppen book "Bear Archery Traditional Bows - A Chronological History 1949 - 2015 Second Edition"... This Vintage Bear Archery recurve bow appears to be a 1965 "High Compression HC-30".
The book describes this bow as the first year Bear manufactured the Tamerlane HC-30 Tournament model. It featured a phenolic riser with white glass.
The phenolic handle offered three advantages: 1 30% less recoil (reduced hand shock), 2 30% greater mass weight (balance and stability), and 3 a sight window cut 1/8 beyond center (center-shot bow or either side of center [with arrow plate adjustment]). As with the standard Tamerlane, it came with a Custom Bristle Rest and Adjustable Nylon Arrow Plate as standard equipment. The Premier Bowsight was optional. The bow color is Black over lay with White tips.
The Medallion is a Brass Standing Bear Coin, and the Riser material is identified as "High Compression Material (Formica)". The book's description says one could special order this bow without the sight routing or decorative plate. The HC-30s were offered in 66" and 69" and came in weights from 25 to 50 lbs.
