This is a 1965 BEAR Kodiak. #55, Serial number 5L2646 The 1965 bear Kodiak represents the culmination of design evolution for the basic lines of the horned Kodiak model. This was the first year for the two-tone riser constructed of contrasting hardwoods in Bubinga and Rosewood. This bow has a brass Bear coin medallion , olive / gray glass, and gray limb tips. This bow retains its original decals and serial number and most of the original finish, however the finish was touched up prior to me owning this bow, there are some scratches on the bear decal and the bear coin shows wear and so it probably belongs in the hands of someone who is going to use the bow, as this would be of considerable concern to a collector.
However, what you do with it is up to you. I have owned this bow for many years.
Since in my care and use, I have shot many arrows from this bow, and I do not hesitate to tell you that it is a very good shooter and it is in good shooting condition, and the photos will show you that it is in nice cosmetic condition as well. I have used it as recently as last autumn.
As with any BEAR Kodiak bow, it is consistent and hard-hitting and a pleasure to shoot - assuming that you are comfortable with a 55 lb draw weight. So it is time for someone else to get more use out of it. This bow is in what I would consider to be good condition. It has no damage, no repairs other than what appears to be some indication of some refinishing in the form of some slight discoloration around writing on the riser (see the close-up photo). The surface shows some minor signs of wear from use but no major surface scuffs, scratches or rubs. The finish is in good smooth condition with little if any crazing. Tips are olive & gray and are solid and undamaged. The leather arrow plate affixed just above the arrow shelf is in good condition but is not the original leather. I, personally think the olive green glass and "two-tone" coloration of the riser make this an extremely pretty bow, but that is just my personal opinion, and I will admit to being a little bit biased in favor of any Bear Kodiak bow. Please look at the photos for more detail and ask questions, if you have any.
I will include the string that I have been using on it. Since the bow is more than a half a century in age, I cannot provide you with any guarantee on how it will continue to perform.
But I can assure you that it is presently in very good condition for its age and presently shoots great. The item "1965 Bear Kodiak Recurve Bow #55" is in sale since Thursday, March 25, 2021.
